STORE AND CHARGE LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES SAFELY

The list of fires caused particularly by charging lithium-ion batteries is getting steadily longer and longer. Li-Ion batteries can cause fires during thermal runaway caused by e.g. internal short circuits and this is considered a particular hazard with a high fire risk due to the large amounts of energy stored in the cells. Mechanical damage, electrical faults or excessive heating can lead to electrolyte leakage and thus lead to a fire or explosion, where combustion residues can react violently and be highly toxic - depending on the electrolyte, even the formation of very dangerous acid is possible.
The risk of violent explosion of a li-ion battery cannot be underestimated and because a li-ion battery causes a "metal fire" the  fire cannot be extinguished by traditional means.
Hiltra Barneveld BV has developed a complete program of fire safety cabinets and safes  which offer very high security in storage and charging activities with this type of batteries. The applied, uniquely certified extinguishing system is activated automatically very quickly, is man- and environment-friendly and reduces consequential damage to a minimum.
HILTRA LI-ION FIRE SAFETY CASES ARE:

  • Cabinets 90 minutes fire resistant, tested by MPA Dresden in accordance with NEN-EN-14470-1.
  • Tested for battery explosion and fire in the cabinet by Battery University - Karlstein.
  • Equipped with a unique and Kiwa certified extinguishing system according to BRL-K23003/01.
  • Fitted with emergency pressure relief with special filter to keep the extinguishing aerosol in the cabinet and prevent emission of Li-ion particles from the cabinet.
